Notes for my writing

This blog is made up of notes on the gospel as found in the only true and living church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This includes notes that are either excerpts from or ideas for books I either have in draft or may yet write.

Immodesty and lust

If Christ said

Matthew 5: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

why can we not figure out that he would also say

"Whosoever dresses to inspire a man to lust after her hath committed adultery with him already in her heart."

No one can honestly say that he condemned lustful looking as being akin to adultery (which was a capitol offense under the law of Moses), but that he thought that the flip side of that issue, dressing to inspire lust was, was not equally sinful.

Lust always stand in opposition to the real gospel. Immodesty is all about lust. They are twins.

Do we remember how John the Baptist was slain?

Mark 6:22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

This was a seductive dance. It was meant to entice and sexually arouse Herod. It was likely a very immodest dance as well, as it was seductive to the point that Herod was willing to give her half of his kingdom.

And what did she want? The head of John the Baptist.

Do we really think Christ didn't stand against such things? Do we not understand that lust and immodesty always stand in opposition to the gospel?

The secret combinations that destroyed the Jaredite nation was born out of a single, similar dance. This was not a modest waltz.

Ether 8:11 And now Omer was a friend to Akish; wherefore, when Jared had sent for Akish, the daughter of Jared danced before him that she pleased him, insomuch that he desired her to wife. And it came to pass that he said unto Jared: Give her unto me to wife.
12 And Jared said unto him: I will give her unto you, if ye will bring unto me the head of my father, the king.

From that act was born a secret combination that eventually destroyed the kingdom.

Lust and immodesty always stand in opposition to truth and right.

And yes, whoever dresses to inspire a man to lust after her hath committed adultery with him already in her heart.
