Notes for my writing

This blog is made up of notes on the gospel as found in the only true and living church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This includes notes that are either excerpts from or ideas for books I either have in draft or may yet write.

No freedom of religion for Christians

How many times recently have we seen someone refuse to uphold a law with impunity? Sanctuary cities? Proposition 8? But when it is a Christian doing it specifically because it stands as a violation of her Christian religion, she goes to jail for it. Our country arose on the idea that just because a government has the might to do something doesn't give it the right to do that thing. Otherwise the declaration of independence doesn't even make sense. It is a document about things the British government was doing that it didn't have the right to do, even if with its armies it had the might to enforce them. Government has no more right to redefine the divine institution of marriage than it has to ignore and suppress divinely endowed inalienable rights. It lies outside the rights of government to change it.
