Notes for my writing

This blog is made up of notes on the gospel as found in the only true and living church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This includes notes that are either excerpts from or ideas for books I either have in draft or may yet write.

In response to a man saying sex in movies is OK because it happens in the bible

I wrote the following in response to a man who claimed that if hollywood made a movie of the bible it would have lots of sex, so watching sex in movies is OK:

The depiction of the sex in the bible is never provocative. Even when Absolom rapes his own sister, we are informed that it happens, that she pleaded with him not to, and that is all. We are given essentially the minimum we need to understand what happened, but nothing that is intended to be arousing.

Telling us something of a sexual nature happened, and acting it out for us to see are radically different. I can safely assume you know that your parents had sex. But you probably never watched. The information is different than the portrayal.
